SUPER article, Devon! And exactly spot on. I especially agree with your advice on cost v. alterations – if it’s more expensive, it should fit properly.

I’m a big believer in dressing somewhat trendy, but more classically. Rarely do my clothes come from boutiques – rather, I’ve found gems in places like KMart or Target. I’ve shopped Goodwill for unique purses (my favorite is a Whiting and Davis gold round cross-body bag). Back when I lived near a Salvation Army store, I had all sorts of designer clothes that cost $20 a BAG.

The important thing to focus on is fit. If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t matter how much or how little you’ve spent.

And I agree – fashion magazines can put together some incredibly awful looks and push that as the latest trend. I can point to at least three outfit ideas in one current pub that suck from head to toe, but that they rave about. No thanks. I’ll dress with a little more common sense, thank you.

This is exactly what I needed to read right now. Thank you, Devon! I have the lottery tickets already purchased, but the others are great ideas, as well.

Another thing I like to pick up – gas cards. My kids especially need them. And my son gets his favorite local coffee – bags of it.

Totally into the idea of a different color for the LBD. I’m a fan of navy or brown as it lifts the complexion.

I was fortunate this year – his holiday party already happened and I had plenty in the closet. The only thing I bought was food for the potluck!
